How to create your project proposal

Back to taking part in Aspiring Places

The following information will help you to write your project proposal. Don't worry if you don't have all of the recommended information right now. Please tell us as much as you can!

When you are ready you can share your project proposal by clicking on the 'create a project proposal' button here. You can come back and update your proposal whenever you wish.

If you need help, you can reach out to the project team at AspiringPlaces@argyll-bute.gov.uk

Project Title

Give your project a name. This can be changed at any time. Choose a short, powerful and eye-catching title. If you can, include the location of your project proposal in the title.

Project Summary

Please tell us your project’s aim – a one liner that gives a flavour of what you will do and who it will help.

Proposal Text

If you can, please answer questions 1-5.

1. Why is your project needed?

In a few short sentences, please summarise the evidence that shows your project is something that your community needs. Here are some links that might help you find evidence of need for your project.

2. What do you want to do?

In a few short sentences, please describe the work or activities that your project will carry out. For example, refurbish an empty premises to set up a Youth Cafe that will deliver a programme of after-school activities for young people.

Please name any other groups or organisations that you plan on working in partnership with.

3. What positive changes will your project bring about?

In a few short sentences, please describe the positive changes that your project will bring about for the people or organisations taking part. For example, increased numbers of young people will get involved with independent, local facilities leading to a thriving year-round community. Here are some links with more information

Please tell us how long your project will run. If you can, please provide an estimated start date.

5. How much will your project cost?

If you can, please tell us:

  • Total Cost (this can be an estimate)
  • Amount raised to date (this can be £0)
  • Funding still needed

Here are some links with more information about creating a budget for your project.

Adding an Image

You can upload one image for your project proposal. Adding an image is a great way to attract attention and encourage people to read about what your group wants to do. Here are some useful tips when selecting an image for your project proposal:

  • Pictures of people always work best. Remember Aspiring Places is open to the public. Please be mindful of people's privacy and make sure you have permission of anyone who could be identified in your picture.
  • Larger photos always look better but watch out, the image should not exceed 11Mb of maximum weight.
  • Make sure your photo is suitable for all audiences and does not contain any explicit content.

Adding a Video

You can provide a link to one video on YouTube or Vimeo that you have made about your project or organisation. Please make sure your video is suitable for all audiences and does not contain any explicit content.

Uploading Documents

You can upload up to three documents alongside your project proposal. The documents have to be in PDF format and cannot exceed 3MB per file. We recommended uploading documents that you feel support your project proposal. For example, a Community Action Plan, Local Place Plan, or other forms of evidence to show that your project is needed e.g. results of a community surveys.

Locating your project

You will be asked to select the 'scope of operation' for your project. The 'scope of operation' will ask you to select which administrative area your project is located in. You can find more information on Argyll and Bute's administrative areas here. If your project covers multiple administrative areas in Argyll and Bute, you can select 'Argyll and Bute'.

After you have selected the 'scope of operation' for your project, you will be asked to navigate the map and place a pin on a map to show the location of your project. If your project does not have a single location, place a pin on the map to show the main location of your group or organisation.

Selecting categories for your project

At the end of your project proposal form, you will find a list of categories that you can select from to help people find your project more easily. You can select more than one category but please make sure all the categories you select are relevant for your project.

1. Please select 'Capital', 'Revenue' (or both) to tell us what kind of funding your project will need. You can click on '£Capital' or '£Revenue' below to read a description.

2. Please also select one or more of the following categories to tell us the main focus of your project. You can click on each of the categories below to read a description.

If you are unsure which categories to select for your project, you can reach out to the project team at AspiringPlaces@argyll-bute.gov.uk
